Dave graduated high school in 1989 and enrolled in Northeastern University’s EMT program in Boston, Mass. He was on the streets with his newly minted EMT card in October of 1989 in Brockton, Mass., working in many of the surrounding communities in and around Boston. He completed the Northeastern University Paramedic program in July of 1992, continuing to work in the Metro Boston area.
He began college at UMass Amherst in 1993, all the while working full-time as a paramedic. He double majored in Social Thought Political Economy & Fisheries Ecology, earning a BS in 1997.
He continued working as a paramedic, earned his private pilot’s license and instrument rating, and raced bicycles, until starting medical at the University of New England’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007. He rotated extensively at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor during his third and fourth years or medical school, before earning his DO in May of 2011. He then completed an Emergency Medicine residency at Tuft’s University Baystate Medical Center in 2014. He’s been in Bangor Maine ever since.
