More Than Just Helicopters
FILM SERIES
more than just helicopters
Our mission at LifeFlight is about so much more than just helicopters. We deliver ICU-level care with the speed of aircraft to anyone in Maine when they need it most. We give people in Maine — our friends, families, colleagues, and neighbors — their best chance on their worst day.
This film series takes an inside look at our mission, the people who make that mission possible, and the patients, families, and communities we are here to serve.
Part I: “more than just helicopters”
“The mood changes in the room when the LifeFlight team walks in. It’s a feeling of relief. It’s a feeling of safety. Every patient is in the best possible hands.” – Joe Kellner, CEO
We transport more than 2,500 patients annually. That’s an average of one person every 3.5 hours, every day and night of the year. Since 1998, we have transported nearly 40,000 people.
We bring the doors of the trauma center closer to the patient. Our crew members are among the best EMS clinicians in the country, and they carry with them some of the most advanced medical equipment available.
As a nonprofit, we rely on your support.

Part II: “Broken | a LifeFlight story”
A note to viewers: at LifeFlight of Maine, we routinely bring calm to chaos. This video depicts Roger Quehl’s story and the LifeFlight team that saved his life after a major accident. While true to our mission, some of the content may not be appropriate for all viewers.
On Valentine’s Day 2023, Roger Quehl IV left his apartment in Portland to go visit his parents in Searsmont, where he grew up. Driving along Route 17 that evening, a truck veered into his lane and hit his car head-on. “I was told that I was in the car for about two hours,” Roger said. “There were 40-plus people on the scene trying to save my life.”
Roger is one of more than 40,000 patients LifeFlight has transported since 1998. In this video, LifeFlight’s mission is displayed on the faces and in the stories of those who were there that night for Roger.
“Without LifeFlight, he wouldn’t be here. He wouldn’t be here.” – Jennifer Quehl, Roger’s mother
