A LifeFlight Patient Becomes a LifeFlight Donor

Every donation to LifeFlight of Maine, no matter the size, helps us continue our mission of delivering ICU-level care anywhere in Maine to anyone who needs it. Every gift matters, because it takes all of us coming together to make a second chance possible for our patients and their families.

Josh Elowe became a LifeFlight patient in the winter of 2004. After a skiing accident, he was flown by helicopter from Conway Hospital to Maine Medical Center. Since then, he has stayed involved with the organization by sharing his LifeFlight story, volunteering, and making occasional donations. Now, he’s giving back in a new way to the organization that gave him a second chance.

Having worked in commercial real estate for ten years, Josh recently made a career shift to the non profit sector, and is now an Associate Director of Annual Giving at Bowdoin College. There he sees first-hand the importance of recurring donations to non-profit organizations such as LifeFlight.

“At this point in my life I’m not able to give millions of dollars, but I recognize the importance of giving a small gift, something that’s much more manageable, on a recurring basis,” says Josh. “It’s an opportunity to stay involved and stay connected in a way that I can ‘set it and forget it’ so I don’t have to worry about continuing my support for LifeFlight. “

Signing up to become a recurring donor only takes a few minutes. “It was very easy. I went onto the website, and was easily able to select how much I wanted to give monthly, and that was it.”

“Our work would truly not be possible without donors like Josh,” says Ashley MacMillan, LifeFlight’s Director of Annual Giving. As an independent nonprofit and the state’s only air ambulance service, we depend on the support of a strong community of donors to meet the needs of LifeFlight. Working together, we ensure that we have the best fleet and the most advanced medical equipment possible, as well as a highly skilled and trained crew – both supported by the infrastructure needed to safely operate across Maine’s rugged and remote terrain in challenging and unpredictable weather.
