One Life at a Time

Every 3.5 hours, every day and night of the year, a LifeFlight crew is dispatched on a mission to provide critical care and medical transport to an acutely ill or injured person in Maine.

We transport critically ill or injured patients of all ages needing specialized care beyond what can be provided by local hospitals. These include premature infants, cardiac and stroke patients, and people experiencing a complex traumatic injury, organ transplant, sepsis, burns, and serious obstetric complications.

Emergency medical providers are guided by state-mandated protocols based on the latest research and best practices.

LifeFlight is proud to care for all patients regardless of a person’s insurance status or ability to pay. We contract with all major payers including Medicare, MaineCare, and commercial insurers.

ICU-Level Care

LifeFlight is a mobile intensive care system staffed by specially trained critical care nurses and paramedics with real-time physician support.

Helicopter Transport

Chosen for their speed and weight, our helicopters provide coverage to all of Maine.

Airplane Transport

LifeFlight’s Beechcraft King Air B200 provides greater speed and efficiency over long distances and improves all-weather capability.

Ground Transport

Ground vehicles provide support when weather or other factors don’t allow for air travel.

Infrastructure

LifeFlight continually works to develop state-of-the-art aviation systems and infrastructure that support safe operations. This infrastructure directly impacts the organization’s ability to serve Maine, a state with a vast geography and widely varied and fickle weather conditions.
