Supporting Life in Rural Maine: Viking Lumber Gives Back to LifeFlight
Viking Lumber is a family owned and operated business serving communities up and down the coast of Maine. Over the past 80 years, the company has grown significantly, as has the Flanagan family who owns the business. Today, Viking Lumber has many dedicated employees and ten full-service locations, spanning from Warren to Machias.
The Flanagans take pride in their community and donate to a range of organizations that support life in rural Maine, both personally and through the business. They have been loyal supporters of LifeFlight for eleven years, many of those as a Beacon Sponsor of LifeFlight’s annual peer to peer fundraising event, the Cross for LifeFlight.
The Viking family is aware that should a medical emergency ever occur, it can be difficult to reach a hospital, given the geography around some of their communities in coastal Maine. However, with the help of a LifeFlight helicopter, plane, or ground ambulance, the transport time can be cut down significantly.

Isabel Cross, the granddaughter of Viking Lumber founder Judson Flanagan, is part of the third generation of family members now helping manage the company. She has participated in the Cross, logging her miles throughout August and raising money for LifeFlight from friends and family. Isabel isn’t the only member of the Viking Lumber team to donate to LifeFlight. Many other employees have also made their own personal donations.
“I know many of my fellow Viking colleagues proudly support LifeFlight as they realize how important the service is to support life in rural Maine,” said Isabel. “LifeFlight is an essential resource in Maine, not only has it touched our family directly but also our extended Viking family of coworkers and customers.”
“We are deeply grateful for the generous support from Viking Lumber and its employees.” said Anna Dugal, Director of Development at the LifeFlight Foundation. “As a nonprofit, we rely on the commitment of Maine-based companies like Viking Lumber to help make our lifesaving work possible and to raise awareness about the critical service we provide.”
LifeFlight was created for the people of Maine, ensuring that everyone, no matter where they live, has access to the care they need when they need it most. LifeFlight’s partnerships with Maine businesses are vital to this mission, and its bond with companies like Viking Lumber reflect shared dedication to the wellbeing of this state. LifeFlight is always eager to collaborate with organizations that share its deep commitment to the people and communities that call Maine home.
