KC was a LifeFlight patient in 2011, after surviving a plane crash off Matinicus Island. Since then, she has been a steadfast advocate and donor.

KC and her husband Matthew Russ, a Maine landscape painter, participated regularly in the Isleboro Crossing, and now the Cross for LifeFlight. After long careers as the Associate Director of Admissions & Financial Aid at Colby College and as the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki, KC began her work at Mid-Maine Technical Center in 2018. She retired in June 2024.
